8 May 2019 - The Permanent Mission of Thailand hosted a Glion human rights policy dialogue on the topic  "Implementation support and follow-up by the international human rights system", in cooperation with the Universal Rights Group (URG). 

At the dialogue, some 50 experts and participants from States, international organizations and civil society organizations exchanged fresh and constructive ideas on how to practically improve the international support and technical cooperation for follow-up and implementation of human rights recommendations at the national level. 

H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand, chaired the session, which featured distinguished speakers from the United Kingdom, the Maldives, OHCHR, UNFPA, UPR-Info, and the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities. Among the participants were Permanent Representatives of Australia, Denmark, Honduras, Mexico, Myanmar and the Philippines.

A number of important issues were raised, such as the need to create greater safe space for concrete technical cooperation at the Human Rights Council (HRC), the value of making realistic and sensible UPR recommendations and providing more support States in the follow-up and implementation phase, the need to promote an effective and constructive approach of the HRC Special Procedures, and the importance of the UN Country Teams and UN Resident Coordinators in providing technical support to States. 

A report on the session will be produced by the URG and presented at the Glion VI Human Rights Dialogue during 27-28 May 2019 in Vevey.
