(Speaker Number: 82 Time: 1 minute 30 seconds)
Mr. Vice President,
Thailand welcomes Argentina’s efforts to ensure access to justice for persons with disabilities and to ensure that children with disabilities are included in the development of the education system. We also take positive note of the work of the National Advisory Commission for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities.
We welcome the adoption of Argentina’s first national action plan to combat violence against women as well as progressive efforts to promote LGBT rights and combating violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Thailand recommends that Argentina further strengthen access to justice for victims of violence, in particular of gender-based violence, through providing effective legal aid and addressing gender stereotypes among justice officials.
We recognize Argentina’s continuing efforts to improve prison conditions.
In this regard, Thailand recommends that Argentina take further concrete steps to implement the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-Custodial Measures for Women Offenders, or the “Bangkok Rules”, to ensure that all women in prison receive equal access to services and that the special needs of women in prison including their children are appropriately addressed.
Thank you.
