Mr. President,

Thailand commends Japan for its efforts to combat trafficking in persons and to promote and protect the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities. In particular, we welcome the ratification of the Palermo Convention and its Trafficking in Persons Protocol and the CRPD.

We take positive note of Japan’s domestic laws and policies pertaining to human rights, as well as its efforts on human rights education and training.

Thailand recommends that Japan strengthen its efforts to combat trafficking in persons, including by formulating a comprehensive anti-trafficking legal framework, especially in order to protect women and children from exploitation.

Thailand recommends that Japan ensure decent work without discrimination by enhancing effective implementation of the Basic Plan for Gender Equality and the Act on Promotion of Women’s Participation in the Workplace, and by ensuring reasonable wages and safe working conditions for foreign workers, particularly those under the Technical Intern Training Program.
