Statement by the Delegation of Thailand
by H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee
Ambassador and Permanent Representative
at the Review of Vietnam
during the 32nd Session of the Working Group on the UPR
on Tuesday, 22 January 2019, 14:30-18:00 hrs.
Mr. President,
Thailand welcomes the delegation of Vietnam to the UPR.
Thailand applauds the progress made in advancing human rights and sustainable development, particularly efforts to safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups, reduce poverty and inequalities, and promote gender equality, including supporting women’s start-ups.
Thailand welcomes the One Strategic Plan 2017-2021 as the framework for Vietnam’s partnership with the UN agencies.
Thailand values Vietnam’s active role in mainstreaming human rights across all pillars of the ASEAN Community.
Thailand recommends the following:
First, further invest in women’s economic empowerment and promote decent work for women in partnership with relevant international organizations.
Second, assess its labour laws and consider introducing the appropriate amendments, based on applicable ILO and human rights standards, to ensure better working conditions and protection of workers, including against threats of forced labour.
As a fellow ASEAN Member State, Thailand wishes Vietnam every success in the UPR.
Thank you.
