On 14 May 2025, the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva and the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations co-hosted a commemoration of the International Day of Vesak at Palais des Nations, Geneva. This event was held for the third consecutive year.
Both the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Thailand and Sri Lanka to the United Nations delivered opening remarks. H.E. Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), joined as the Chief Guest and delivered a welcoming address. The commemoration also featured keynote addresses by 2 venerable monks from Buddhist temples in Europe and remarks by Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Bhutan, India, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Viet Nam, as well as representatives from the Permanent Mission of Singapore, China, Republic of Korea and Japan.
The commemoration was attended by a number of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives, members of Permanent Missions and International Organizations, venerable Thai and Sri Lankan monks in Europe as well as Thai and Sri Lankan Buddhist communities living across Europe.
