Thailand at the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention Intersessional Meeting 2024 and the First Preparatory Meeting for the Fifth Review Conference of the Convention
Thailand actively participated in the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention Intersessional Meeting 2024 during 18-20 June 2024, and the First Preparatory Meeting for the Fifth Review Conference of the Convention on 20 June 2024 in Geneva.
As the Committee on Article 5 Implementation’s Gender Focal Point, Thailand briefed the meeting on efforts in gender mainstreaming and ensuring diversity needs within the work of the Committee, including through surveys, mine risks education and demining activities.
In its national capacity, Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC) updated the meeting on its Article 5 implementation under its new working plan 2024-2026, highlighting achievements and on-going cooperation at regional and international levels. Thailand also reaffirmed its readiness to work with Cambodia on humanitarian demining along the Thailand-Cambodia border.
On victim assistance, the Department of Empowerment of People with Disabilities shared an overview on Thailand’s efforts in empowering the victims and family, as well as their integration into society.
Furthermore, Thailand shared views on how cooperation and assistance can strengthen the Article 5 Process, and its support for enhanced synergies between the Committee on Article 5 Implementation and the Committee on the Enhancement on Cooperation and Assistance. Lastly, Thailand expressed its readiness to work with all partners in developing the next Action Plan and the preparation for the upcoming Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention’s Fifth Review Conference.
