Thailand called for renewed commitment to achieving a mine-free world at the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention Intersessional Meetings 2025 during 17-20 June 2025 in Geneva.

As the Committee on Article 5 Implementation’s Chair, Thailand, together with Algeria, Norway and the United Kingdom, briefed the meeting on progress of the Article 5 extension request process this year, efforts in gender mainstreaming and ensuring diversity needs within the work of the Committee, as well as efforts to provide mine risk education and other risk reduction programmes to local communities. The Committee also welcomed and appreciated the exchanges of views and comments of all stakeholders in the discussion.

In its national capacity, Thailand updated the meeting on its Article 5 implementation last year, highlighting achievements and on-going cooperation at regional and international levels, including the launching of the Center of Excellence last May. Thailand also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders and sustain national capacity for more favourable conditions to clear contaminated areas along the Thailand-Cambodia border.

On victim assistance, the Department of Empowerment of People with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, shared Thailand’s expertise in victim assistance including concerted efforts and national policy such as "5x5 Population Crisis Strategy" and 3 key points: Empowerment & Support, Improving Facilities & Services, and Crisis Response & Accessibility.

Regarding the cooperation and assistance, Thailand enhanced the importance of strong national, ownership, effective partnership and coordination in mine actions. Thailand also shared its experiences in integrating mine action into national development plan, coordinating the mine activities through the Thai National Mine Action Committee, and fostering multifaced cooperations to transferring our experiences to the Region, including a proposal to establish the Guidelines and Action for mine clearance operation in ASEAN.

Lastly, Thailand maintained its firm commitments to support universalization of the APMBC, and shared the United Nations Secretary-General and other States Parties’ concerns regarding the withdrawal from the Convention.
