On 11 July 2023, H.E. Mrs. Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, took part in the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue (EID) concerning the report of the High Commissioner on the way forward to improve technical cooperation and capacity-building in the field of human rights.  This EID was held in pursuant to HRC resolution 51/34, presented by the core group of which Thailand is penholder.

Amb. Srimaitreephithak delivered a statement on behalf of ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste, stressing the need to explore additional effective and innovative resource mobilization to improve efficiency of technical cooperation and capacity-building.  The idea of multi-stakeholder platforms to promote discussion and exchange of best practices in the field of human rights was highlighted.  It was also mentioned that the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) stands ready to render its contribution to this cause.

On this occasion, Thailand’s national statement was made, in line with ASEAN Statement, proposing a peer support platform as a way to help accelerate States’ human rights implementation and, meanwhile, advance the achievement of SDGs. The importance of ensuring sufficient funding for the promotion, protection and fulfilment of human rights for all was also emphasized.
