On 23 February 2026, at the High-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament of 2026 session, H.E. Ms. Usana Berananda, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the UN and other International Organizations, pledged that Thailand will remain an unwavering advocate for disarmament and non-proliferation.

In her national statement, Ambassador Berananda reaffirmed Thailand’s steadfast commitment to advancing global and regional disarmament and non-proliferation, including in following agendas:

  • Revitalization of the Conference on Disarmament through enlarging membership and ensuring participation of observers;
  • Restoration of dialogue between nuclear-weapon States — as well as with other nuclear-possessing States — on nuclear risk reduction, transparency, and crisis communication;
  • Concerns over the termination of the New START and support for negotiation of an inclusive nuclear arms control agreement with a robust verification regime;
  • Complementarity between the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT);
  • Continued efforts to engage with the P5 to accede, without reservation, to the Protocol to the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Treaty;
  • Compliance with obligations under international laws, particularly humanitarian disarmament treaties and international humanitarian law, during armed conflicts, and
  • Pragmatic and balanced approach to enhance outer space security.
