Statement by the Delegation of Thailand

Mr. Phanpob Plangprayoon

Minister Counsellor

at the adoption of the UPR Working Group Report of Indonesia

during the 36th Session of the Human Rights Council

on Thursday 21 September 2017 from 12.00 to 15.00 hrs.

Mr. President,

Thailand welcomes Indonesia’s active and constructive engagement in the UPR process.

The participation of two Ministers at the UPR Working Group meeting in May 2017 illustrates Indonesia’s high-level commitment to the UPR process, ensuring that the UPR will have a strong impact on implementation at the national level.

We commend Indonesia for supporting the majority of the recommendations that it received, including both of Thailand’s recommendations.

We encourage Indonesia to continue its efforts to fully implement its accepted UPR recommendations and its international human rights obligations.

Thailand is of the view that the promotion and protection of human rights is fundamental to sustainable development, ensuring that no one is left behind.

In this connection, Thailand endorses the adoption of the UPR Working Group’s report on Indonesia by the Council.

As a fellow ASEAN Member State with close and longstanding ties with Indonesia, Thailand wishes Indonesia every success in its efforts to promote and protect human rights.

Thank you, Mr. President.
