Mr. President,
Thailand appreciates Burundi’s commitment to and participation at the UPR.
Thailand would like to submit three recommendations for Burundi’s consideration.
First, while recognizing Burundi’s efforts to separate female prisoners from male prisoners, Thailand recommends Burundi to take further steps to enhance the condition and treatment of female detainees, pregnant prisoners and children born in prison.
Second, while welcoming the legislation on gender-based violence of 2016 and the establishment of gender-based violence centers and special court chambers, Thailand recommends Burundi to further undertake firm preventive measures to combat and prohibit all forms of violence against women committed by all parties.
Third, while welcoming Burundi’s efforts in establishing regional and provincial offices of the National Independent Human Rights Commission, Thailand recommends Burundi to further strengthen the Commission by ensuring its independence in accordance with the Paris Principles.
Thank you, Mr. President.
