Statement by the Delegation of Thailand

during the 29th Session of the Working Group on the UPR

Mr. President,
Thailand congratulates the UAE for ratifying the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.
Thailand commends the UAE for appointing the Minister of State for Tolerance and introducing the National Tolerance Program.
Thailand also welcomes the adoption of the Federal Law on Domestic Workers, as well as the establishment of the Gender Balance Council and the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
Thailand recommends the UAE to fully implement her labour laws to safeguard the dignity and protect the rights of workers, particularly foreign and women workers, in full compliance with her international human rights obligations, as well as to develop effective mechanisms for resolving labour disputes.
Thailand recommends the UAE to adopt and implement measures to eliminate stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV/AIDS.
We wish the UAE every success in this UPR process.
