at the Review of Canada

(Speaker Number: 79 Time: 1 minute 05 seconds)

Mr. Vice President,

Thailand welcomes the Canadian Delegation to the third UPR cycle.

We welcome Canada’s efforts to promote corporate responsibility to respect human rights, in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We are pleased to learn about the visit of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights to Canada in June last year. In this regard, we recommend Canada to take further steps to prevent human rights impacts by Canadian companies operating overseas as well as ensure access to remedies for people affected and to share Canada’s practices as appropriate.

Also, we recommend Canada to enhance efforts to adopt adequate mechanisms to identify victims of trafficking, especially those who need protection and rehabilitation, including women belonging to ethnic minorities.

I thank you, Mr. Vice President.
