Statement by the Delegation of Thailand

H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee

Ambassador and Permanent Representative

at the Review of Russian Federation

during the 30th Session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review

on Monday 14 May 2018 from 14.30 to 18.00 hrs.

(Speaker Number: 8 Time: 1 minute)

Mr. President,

Thailand welcomes the Russian delegation to the third cycle of the UPR.
We commend several positive steps, such as the establishment of Commissioner for Human Rights and Commissioner for children’s rights at the federal and regional levels and the ratification of the Optional Protocol to the CRC on the sale of children and the Marrakesh Treaty.

Thailand recommends Russia to take measures to ensure the elimination of the sale and trafficking of children, through investigations and robust prosecutions of persons engaging in those crimes as well as the provision of rehabilitation and social reintegration of child victims of trafficking.

We also recommend Russia to step up efforts to end statelessness, especially by establishing safeguards to guarantee birth registration to all children born in the country, including stateless children and those belonging to minority groups.

I thank you, Mr. President.
