Statement by the Delegation of Thailand

H.E. Mr. Phanpob Plangprayoon,

Minister and Deputy Permanent Representative of Thailand

at the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur

on the human rights situation in Cambodia

during the 39th Session of the Human Rights Council

Wednesday, 26 September 2017, 12.00-15.00 hrs

at Room XX, Palais des Nations, Geneva

Mr. Vice President,

Thailand takes note of the report of the Special Rapporteur. We commend Cambodia for its cooperation extended to the Special Rapporteur during her missions.

Like all countries, Cambodia faces human rights challenges. We encourage the Government of Cambodia to do its utmost to address these challenges, and to harness the synergy and mutually reinforcing linkages between human rights and the 2030 Agenda.

International cooperation, particularly through effective technical cooperation and capacity-building, is an important means through which States can enhance their capacity to promote and protect human rights, in accordance with their international obligations.

We should also underline the importance of engagement, constructive dialogue and concrete actions that will bring about real changes on the ground and ensure that no one is left behind.

To this end, we encourage the Government of Cambodia to continue to cooperate with international partners and relevant stakeholders in order to strengthen efforts that promote and protect human rights, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, women and persons with disability.

In closing, we encourage the Government of Cambodia, the Special Rapporteur and the OHCHR to further the ongoing cooperation. Thailand stands ready to support Cambodia’s efforts.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
