Statement by the Delegation of Thailand
Mr. Phanpob Plangprayoon
Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative
at the Review of Jordan
during the 31st Session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review
on Thursday 8 November 2018 from 09.00 to 12.30 hrs.
(Speaker Number: 88 Time: 1 minute 15 seconds)
Mr. President,
Thailand welcomes the delegation of Jordan to the third UPR cycle. We commend the launch of the Comprehensive National Human Rights Plan 2016-2025 and the National Plan for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals to strengthen human rights protection and ensure inclusion of all people.
Thailand commends the abolishment of penal code that exempted perpetrators of sexual assault from punishment if they married the victims. We recommend Jordan to strengthen relevant legal frameworks to further protect women against all forms of violence, including domestic violence, and ensure adequate support and redress to victims.
We also recommend Jordan to further strengthen its labour protection with an emphasis on migrant workers, domestic workers, and children, especially by increasing their access to health services and education, and improving working conditions in line with international standards.
I thank you.
