On 30 April 2026, the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva and the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva co-hosted a celebration of the International Day of Vesak 2026 at Palais des Nations, Geneva. This event was held for the fourth consecutive year.

Both the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Thailand and Sri Lanka to the United Nations delivered welcoming remarks. H.E. Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), joined as the Chief Guest and delivered her remark. The event also featured a keynote address by venerable monk on “Vesak: A celebration of Awakening and Shared Humanity”, remarks by Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Bhutan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Singapore, India, as well as representatives from the Permanent Mission of Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Nigeria as well as a meditation session. 

On this occasion, Most Venerable Phra Phrommasith Sukkho, Member of the Supreme Sangha Council and Abbot of Wat Sraket Ratchaworamahawihara, presided over the ceremony to enshrine Buddhist scriptures from the Bhumibalobhikku Foundation.

The celebration was attended by a number of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives, members of Permanent Missions and International Organizations, venerable Thai and Sri Lankan monks in Europe as well as Thai and Sri Lankan Buddhist communities living across Europe.

เมื่อวันที่ 30 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2569 คณะผู้แทนถาวรไทยประจำสหประชาชาติ ณ นครเจนีวา และคณะผู้แทนถาวรศรีลังกาประจำสหประชาชาติ ณ นครเจนีวา ได้ร่วมเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดงานวันวิสาขบูชาสากล ประจำปี 2569 ณ สำนักงานสหประชาชาติ ณ นครเจนีวา โดยได้จัดงานวันวิสาขบูชาสากลติดต่อกันมาแล้วเป็นระยะเวลา 4 ปี

เอกอัครราชทูตและผู้แทนถาวรของทั้งสองประเทศได้กล่าวต้อนรับ และนาง Tatiana Valovaya ผู้อำนวยการใหญ่แห่งสำนักงานสหประชาชาติ ณ นครเจนีวา (UNOG) ได้กล่าวสุนทรพจน์ อีกทั้งยังมีการแสดงปาฐกถาธรรมโดยพระสงฆ์ในหัวข้อ “วิสาขบูชา: การเฉลิมฉลองแห่งการตรัสรู้และความเป็นมนุษยชาติร่วมกัน” รวมถึงการกล่าวถ้อยแถลงจากเอกอัครราชทูตและผู้แทนถาวรของภูฏาน กัมพูชา มองโกเลีย สปป.ลาว เนปาล สิงคโปร์ และอินเดีย ตลอดจนผู้แทนจากคณะผู้แทนถาวรญี่ปุ่น มาเลเซีย เมียนมา และไนจีเรีย และการนั่งสมาธิเจริญภาวนา

ในโอกาสนี้ พระพรหมสิทธิ กรรมการมหาเถรสมาคม เจ้าคณะภาค 11 และเจ้าอาวาสวัดสระเกศราชวรมหาวิหาร ได้เป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ในพิธีอัญเชิญและประดิษฐานคัมภีร์พระพุทธศาสนา จากมูลนิธิภูมิพโลภิกขุ

งานดังกล่าวมีเอกอัครราชทูตและผู้แทนถาวร สมาชิกคณะผู้แทนถาวรและองค์กรระหว่างประเทศ พระสงฆ์ไทยและศรีลังกาในยุโรป ตลอดจนพุทธศาสนิกชนชาวไทยและศรีลังกาที่พำนักอยู่ในทวีปยุโรปเข้าร่วมด้วย
