Thailand became the 88th State endorsing the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (EWIPA)
In January 2025, the Permanent Mission of Thailand in Geneva presented a Note Verbale, confirming Thailand’s endorsement to the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (EWIPA), which makes Thailand the 88th State joining the Political Declaration.
The EWIPA was finalized in 2022 with a view to reconfirming the principles of international laws applied in armed conflicts and promoting concrete measures on those principles for the protection of civilians in the conflicts. Thailand’s endorsement reaffirms its commitments under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and complement to its obligations under other conventional arms control and disarmament frameworks, in particular the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (APMBC).
