Statement by the Delegation of Thailand

by H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee

Ambassador and Permanent Representative

at the Review of Malaysia

during the 31st Session of the Working Group on the UPR

on Thursday, 8 November 2018, 14:30-18:00 hrs.

(Speaker Number: 11 / Speaking Time: 1 minute 5 seconds)

Mr. President,

As a fellow ASEAN Member and close neighbor, Thailand welcomes the delegation of Malaysia to the UPR.

Thailand commends Malaysia’s pledge to ratify all remaining core UN instruments on the protection of human rights, made by the Prime Minister at the seventy-third session of the UN General Assembly.

Thailand welcomes Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to draft a Gender Equality Bill, promote women empowerment, and combat trafficking in persons.

Thailand congratulates Malaysia for becoming the second country in Asia to have eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, thanks to improved access to prevention and care for mothers.

Thailand recommends the following:

First, continue its efforts to combat child labour and trafficking in persons at national, regional, and international levels.

Second, undertake further measures to realize universal health coverage.

Thailand wishes Malaysia every success.

Thank you.
